Male bearing retrofit

The bearing material for the Kest standard mixer range has been in service for over 20 years. Kest has improved on the design by using the Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2) instead of Silicon Carbide (SiC) for the male bearing. The Kest male bearing comes from several diameters and mounting thread sizes to make the retrofit to your exisiting tank plates a simple procedure.

 

Why Zirconium Oxide?

Zirconium Oxide like Silicon Carbide is an advanced ceramic material but comes with several key advantages that make it the ideal material for the male bearing. Zirconium Oxide while not quite hard as the Silicon Carbide has much greater mechanical strength and a longer bending curve. Because of its greater mechanical strength it is less prone to breakage due to vibrations and shocks both thermal and mechanical.

 

Plant Standard

The Kest mixer male bearing is designed to retrofit to exisiting mixer's threaded tank plates. taking advantage of the Kest bearing is now possible without having to replace your exisiting tank plates or modify your vessels in any way. In this way Maintenance Engineers can come equip exisiting vessels with the same bearings being specified for new systems.

 

 

Mixing head replacement

The Kest mixer head can be used on existing tank plates currently in use in the installed base. The kest mixer head can be used either with existing bearings or preferably the Kest Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2) male bearing. The kest mixer head can replace exisiting heads and you can be assured of the same mixing performance.

 

Why silicon Carbide (SiC)?

Silicon Carbide is an excellent material for encapsulated sleeve bearings like those found on the kest mixer heads.  This super hard, super smooth material is very strong in a cylindrical shape under compressive loads. It is also brittle and therefor is better protected in a stainless steel hub. Differential bearing materials offer the benefit of reduced friction which leads to a lower potential for particles generation for the already extremely low particle shedding design.

 

Refined Design

Kest has refined the design of the female sleeve to incorporate smooth radius. This small detail has a huge impact on redeucing chips and cracks. The bearing has also been designed to allow change outs in the field. It is no longer necessary to send the mixer head back to the factory for repairs during maintenance outages.
